Bow Valley Literacy Group

The Bow Valley Literacy Program (BVLP) is a volunteer tutoring program serving the Bow Valley since 1987. The program is hosted by the Bow Valley Learning Council and funded by Alberta Innovation and Advanced Education.

Volunteer tutors meet weekly with a learning partner, from September to June, in the Canmore Public Library. Learners are enabled to improve reading, writing and English communication skills. You do not need teaching experience to be a volunteer tutor, only a love of reading and an interest in helping others. Training and support are provided for tutors.*

The BVLP's English Conversation Group meets Tuesdays at 10:00am at the Canmore Public Library, September to June. Anyone who would like to practice speaking English in a friendly, informal group is welcome. There is no registration for the English Conversation Group and there is no cost - it's free!

The BVLP is dedicated to serving the needs of adult learners and their children. For information about volunteering, working with a volunteer tutor or joining the English Conversation Group, please visit Debbie at the Canmore Library on Monday or Tuesday, between 1:00 and 6:00. You can also contact her via email at bowvalleyliteracy@gmail.com. Families are encouraged to bring children to library programs such as Books for Babies, Wiggle Time, Tales for Twos, the Preschool Drop-In Storytime and the Summer Reading Program.

*Training for new tutors will be offered on Tuesday October 6, 2015, from 4:30 to 9:00 in Canmore and Wednesday January 20, 2016, from 11:00 to 3:30 in Banff.
