Friends of the Canmore Library

What Do the Friends Do?

  • We support the Library and advocate on its behalf.
  • We raise funds for identified needs beyond the scope of the Library's budget.
  • We organize 3 annual book sales (Spring, Summer and Fall).
  • We host a Speakers Series covering topics of interest to local residents.

Through their fundraising efforts, the Friends raised $100,000 to help with the purchase of shelving for the new library space in Elevation Place which opened on April 2nd, 2013. In recognition of this $100,000 donation and their continued support, the Library named its program room "The Friends of the Library Program Room."

For several years the Friends have also been successful in applying for the Community Spirit Grant on behalf of the Library.  In past years these funds have been used to purchase items for the collection, to obtain a second film screening license for our popular Movie Night Program and more recently to purchase 4 Kobo e-readers for public use.  This year the Community Spirit Grant was used to purchase all of the e-book titles loaded on the Kobos, and a number of books, audio-books and dvds for the collection - perfect additions to the new shelves in our new library space!  Look for a special bookplate acknowledging this grant funding on each item purchased.

Who Can Be a Friend?
Anyone with an interest in a strong and vibrant Canmore Library.

What are the Benefits of Membership?
You'll meet interesting people and will have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you're making a difference in your Library.  You can participate in Friends activities and will be notified of upcoming meetings and events.  As a Friend you will also be granted early admission to the book sales on the Friday evenings at 6pm.

How Can You Join?
Memberships are available at the Canmore Library year round or at the book sales for just $5 per person or $10 per family.  The membership year is September 1st to August 31st.
