Library Studio Presents: Watercolor Painting Workshop with Donna Jo Massien

Join us at the Canmore Public Library for a night of guided watercolor painting, led by local artist Donna Jo Massie!

Donna Jo Massie is an incredibly talented and accomplished artist from Cherokee North Carolina, who immigrated to the Bow Valley in 1976, and became a Canadian Citizen in 1994; though her professional art career began in 1988 with her works on display in galleries in Banff and Calgary. Donna Jo is a life member of the Society of Canadian Artists, and winner of the 2018 Artistic Achievement Award from the Society of Canadian Artists at Gainsborough Gallery, among numerous other awards and achievements.

Donna Jo has also published two bestselling books, A Rocky Mountain Sketchbook, and The Joy of Mountains - both of which are based on her experiences in painting and sketching on location while hiking in the Rockies. Known for her beautiful watercolor paintings, with skillful composition and vibrant colors, Donna Jo is a master at her craft. Her work has been featured in many books, magazines, and collections: most notably the American Government, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, and the Alberta Foundation of the Arts.

Donna Jo began teaching at the Alpine Club of Canada, and continues to teach painting workshops locally as well as throughout Alberta and B.C. Her basic philosophy is that “art is teachable and learnable” and should be “fun”.

During this Library Studio Presents event, Donna Jo will lead participants through beginner strategies for watercolor to create a beautiful painting that participants will be able to take home with them.
